We are working on a new exciting entertainment program for the 2012 ActewAGL Royal Canberra Show. Check this page regularly for updates. In the meantime, have a look at highlights of the 2011 ActewAGL Royal Canberra Show below.

Spectacular Canadian Lumberjacks

Ben James, who always signs off his emails with “Good as wood” is bringing a spectacular show direct from Canada to Canberra via Bega. This has been a joint venture between Bega Show Society and the RNCAS.

The centre piece is two poles soaring to 15 metres or 45 feet into the air. These lumberjacks will go up and down these poles at break neck speed. There will be all sorts of acts involving wood – outrageous chainsaws, log rolling and a sic commentator.

The performance will be staged behind the administrative office where the sheep shearing demonstrations and whip cracking have been for the past three years. This is a lively act that is sure to entertain our show crowds.

** Please note that the Spectacular Canadian Lumberjacks is re-located to Opposite Alpacas (Map Ref F3).

HighVelocity Trick Riding

HighVelocity Trick Riding

A major feature of the Arena will be Sally Ham’s HighVelocity Trick Riding. Four very attractive young women with excellent horse riding skills will perform daring manovers at a full gallop. Try a hand stand or just hanging on by one foot whilst you trusty steed is heading down the main straight of the paceway flat out. There is no accelerator or brakes here, just trust in the relationship between man and horse. Exciting and heart stopping are just some of the adjectives that describe this event. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, try doing it blind folded!

Lawn Mower Racing

Demolition Derby - Sunday night!

Demolition Derby - Sunday night!

Demolition Derby is on Sunday night, 28 February 2011 at 6.00pm at the Main Arena!

A crash and bash as the last car moving wins! With over thirty cars especially modified for this event, the idea is to crash into another car to stop it moving. But yes, there are rules – for example, no bumping into the drivers door. What a great way to end the Show!

Dr Harry

Dr Harry

The newly awarded Logie winner will be at this year Show answering questions about caring for your pet at home. Don't miss your chance to meet Dr Harry live and get his autograph at the ActewAGL Alley, outside the ActewAGL Farmyard Nursery.

Dr Harry's morning show educates children how to approach dogs and most importantly, how to avoid getting bitten! Backyard chooks will be on show in the afternoons. Dr Harry will discuss different breeds and invite your children to learn how to wash them.

Thrilling XXL Ride

Broderick Pavier is bringing this thrilling XXXL Sideshow ride to Canberra again. It is not for the faint hearted but if you love speed and centrifugal force then this is the ride for you. The machine will swing you up 24m in the air then spin you around upside down in just seconds.

Fall in love with a Llama

Fall in love with a Llama

What is about 5 foot tall, soft wooly, with big brown eyes and long eyelashes? It's likely that you have never seen a llama close up. They are rare – only about 1,500 registered llamas in Australia!

The NSW Llama Association is offering you a rare opportunity to meet and learn about these wonderful and unusual creatures at its exhibit at the 2011 ActewAGL Royal Canberra Show.

Get up-close to the llamas and see the many ways they enhance our lives, as fun companions, hiking partners, growers of wooly fleece, or as fox-chasers for smaller livestock. Attend a llama-fleece spinning demonstration, or watch the handlers lead their llamas through an obstacle course. Whether you're after fun, function or fleece, our llamas will amaze you with their versatility as the perfect animal for smaller acreages.

Local llama owners and breeders will be on hand to answer your questions. Find out how to become a llama owner and how the various agistment programs, workshops, and open days can help you enjoy llamas even if you don't own a farm.

You will be enchanted by these intelligent and serene animals, but beware - llamas can become addictive!
